EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY:
Santa Rosa Junior College is currently accepting applications to establish a pool for part-time associate faculty assignments. Associate assignments are temporary, part-time or on-call. This job posting is not for a specific assignment or for a full-time faculty position, but rather to establish a pool of candidates who may be considered for part-time faculty assignments.

SRJC is a public two-year community college, which serves the County of Sonoma and portions of Marin and Mendocino counties. The District has two campuses, located in Santa Rosa and Petaluma, California, two centers, a Public Safety Training Center located in Windsor, California, and the Robert Shone Agricultural Center located in Forestville, California, and our newest site in the Roseland area of the City of Santa Rosa. Essential Functions
- Provide excellent instruction and faculty support to students, which may include evening, weekend, online or hybrid and/or off-campus assignments.
- Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
- Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff
- Maintain currency in field(s) of expertise.
- Associate faculty focus primarily on providing instruction and/or student services.
- Associate faculty are typically not required to participate in District or department service such as committee work, evaluations, student learning outcomes assessment, and hiring committees, but may be asked to perform these services for additional compensation.

SELECTION PROCESS:
Applications are accepted for associate faculty pools on a continuous basis. If the department has an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, they will review applications. If the department does not have an immediate need to add candidates to their pool, applications remain in the queue for consideration until the need arises or for up to one year.
If selected for interview, candidates will be invited to interview with a Screening and Interviewing Committee. The Committee may include representatives consisting of Faculty, Administrators, and Classified Professionals. Students may also participate in the committee selection process as determined by the Screening and Interviewing Committee. For candidates who are recommended for the pool, references will be checked at any point beyond the committee interview. If selected for the pool, candidates remain in the pool for four years.
Santa Rosa Junior College does not reimburse candidates for expenses related to associate faculty interviews. Requests for remote interviews or other accommodations will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

DEPARTMENT DESCRIPTION:
The Department of English for Multilingual Students at Santa Rosa Junior College offers a full range of credit and noncredit courses and certificate programs designed to support multilingual students in achieving their personal, academic, and career goals. Serving a diverse cohort of over 2000 students, we facilitate access to campus and community programs and services both on and off campus. Our offerings extend beyond traditional coursework to encompass community-based classes, civics-focused education, and specialized language courses tailored to specific career paths. We actively encourage applications from bilingual/bicultural individuals, persons with disabilities, and members of other marginalized communities. We are especially interested in instructors with demonstrated expertise in creating outstanding learning environments across various modalities.

We are seeking instructors for inclusion in a pool who have the ability to teach in one or more of the following areas:
Credit:
Intermediate and advanced integrated reading, writing, and grammar; pronunciation, and communication, and transfer-level research writing and college composition courses.
Noncredit:
Integrated courses in beginning and low intermediate grammar, reading and writing needed for survival in social, academic and workplace situations and to help students transfer from noncredit to credit courses.
Minimum Qualifications
Required for Credit Courses:
Master's Degree in TESL, TESOL, Applied Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, Linguistics with a TESL emphasis, English with a TESL emphasis or Education with a TESL emphasis; OR a Bachelor's Degree in TESL, TESOL, English with a TESL certificate, Linguistics with a TESL certificate, Applied Linguistics with a TESL certificate, or any foreign language with a TESL certificate AND a Master's Degree in Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, English, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, Speech, or any foreign language; OR the equivalent; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Language Arts and Literature.
Required for Non-Credit Courses:- Bachelor's Degree in TESL or TESOL; OR
- Bachelor's Degree in Education, English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, any foreign language, Composition, Bilingual/Bicultural Studies, Reading, or Speech AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR
- Bachelor's degree with any of the majors specified above AND one year experience teaching English as a Second Language in any accredited institution AND a TESL certificate (which may be completed concurrently during the first two years of employment as a non-credit instructor); OR
- Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in English as a Second Language; OR a fully satisfied (Life) California Community College Instructor's Credential in Language Arts and Literature.
Requires a sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

Additional Department-Specified Provisions (please see Article 16.05 (Download PDF reader) of the AFA Contract for more information): Should an instructor want to teach, tutor, or substitute in online and hybrid courses, proof of "online special expertise" preparation must be submitted to the department prior to being given a teaching assignment. Teaching in person does not have that requirement.
Preferred for Credit Courses:- Ability to teach advanced English reading and composition courses to multilingual students.
- Experience using Canvas to create interactive course content and assessments.
- Experience working with noncredit, multilingual student population.
- Experience with computer-assisted instruction.
Demonstrated commitment to valuing and promoting diversity, equity, inclusion and anti-racism.
