Clinical Assistant Professor in Literacy Education
Boston University Wheelock College of Education & Human Development invites applications for a full-time Clinical Assistant Professor in Literacy Education within the Department of Language and Literacy Education.
We seek a colleague with expertise and an active program of research in literacy development and instruction, including reading foundations and supporting students experiencing reading difficulties. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep knowledge of both research related to early reading and writing development and instruction, including supporting students with disabilities and multilingual students, and critical theories, including a demonstrated commitment to culturally and linguistically sustaining pedagogies and practices.
The Language and Literacy Education Department is a community of scholars and educators with a strong social justice orientation who embrace multilingualism and multiliteracies and who share a commitment to combating deficit framings of students from racially and linguistically marginalized communities. We seek a colleague who shares this orientation and who will contribute to our efforts to build equitable and just education environments in partnership with students, educators, families, and communities, including within the Boston Public Schools and surrounding school districts. Required Qualifications:
Earned doctorate in reading/literacy or a closely related field
K-12 teaching experience in the United States
Preferred Qualifications:
Licensed as a Specialist Teacher of Reading
Experience teaching university-level reading/literacy courses
Experience directing a teacher education program
Bilingual or multilingual proficiency

The successful candidate will teach courses in literacy across programs and departments at BU Wheelock (e.g., early and elementary education, special education, and/or multilingual education), contribute to ongoing cross-departmental efforts to prepare teachers across programs to teach reading, and build and sustain collaborative relationships with local schools, school districts, the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education, and local and national professional organizations. This faculty member also may serve as program director of literacy education, including advising master's students and coordinating practicum placements, supervision, and coaching.
