$9033 per each 4 or 5 unit course.

Purpose:

The English Department at Santa Clara University, a Jesuit, Catholic university, seeks candidates for a Quarterly Lecturer (non-tenure-track) in Composition and Rhetoric. Successful candidates may teach one or two sections of ENGL 1A/2A.

Basic Qualifications

Applicants must have a Ph.D. or MFA in English or a closely related field, preferably with coursework in Rhetoric and Composition with, optimally, at least 4 years of college or professional teaching; must have demonstrated excellence in teaching particularly first-year composition and must be committed to working with undergraduates. Candidates with a M.A. in English or a related area will be considered if they have commensurate academic/university teaching experience.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with inclusive pedagogical practices that advance SCU goals of diversity and equity. Experience teaching and mentoring a diverse population of undergraduate students.

Responsibilities

TEACHING (100%)
Teaching duties include but are not limited to:

1. Teaching a course load of at least one and no more than two courses per quarter, and no more than four in an academic year.

2. Teaching from an approved first year writing syllabus.

3. Conducting all assigned class meetings face-to-face in a timely and prepared manner that demonstrates a command of the discipline and skill in presenting it effectively.

4. Assigning and evaluating assignments that align with the course description and course learning objectives and providing timely oral and written feedback to students.

5. Holding regular weekly office hours on campus or via Zoom.

6. Providing links to narrative evaluations for all courses.

7. Submitting student grades that are an appropriate, accurate, transparent, and fair measure of student performance to the Office of the Registrar by the designated deadline.

This position does not require any service duties. You may be invited, but not required, to attend department meetings or activities. This would be compensable (paid) time.
